Celtic Connections proudly presents Georgia Cécile and Daniel Rooney
‘Vocalist of the Year’ and ‘UK Jazz Act Of The Year’ at the Jazz FM Awards, Georgia Cécile stands at the helm of the UK’s thriving young jazz scene. Inspired by the likes of Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder and Esperanza Spalding, the vocalist and songwriter’s debut topped the UK Official Charts - Jazz and Blues category. Following the release of her debut, Cécile supported Gregory Porter on tour, performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall and showcased at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Championed by BBC Radio 2 & BBC 6 Music she continues to make her mark as one of the UK's finest new voices - heralded by The Guardian as one of six up and coming UK artists.
Daniel Rooney is the so-called overnight success who has worked his whole life hoping for a break, a moment. And he got it, when Hollywood showbiz dude Ross King spotted him in a Glasgow hotel bar just as his mate Gary Barlow was calling him for ideas for a stand in support. Take That were playing the Hydro, a two minute run from Radisson Red where Dan was playing, and our boy wonder didn’t need asking twice – he was on stage, standing in for delayed Olly Murs, in front of 14,000 people 20 minutes later. Inspired by singers such as Paul Weller, Paolo Nutini and Tom Waits. He gained recognition for his first single release last year with 'Old Ways', a glorious ode to simpler times of swinging glamour and soulful grooves and received 'BBC track of the week'.
