Celtic Connections proudly presents Madison Cunningham and Louis Abbott

Madison Cunningham is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist putting "a new spin on West Coast folk-rock, with classical tendencies, electric guitars, jazz-school chord changes and alt-rock strut all living under the same roof.” (Rolling Stone)

Cunningham’s 2019 debut, Who Are You Now, was nominated for Best Americana Album at the Grammys and hinted at things to come. Her 2020 covers EP Wednesday captured her range and influences with renditions of songs by Tom Waits, John Mayer, the Beatles, and Radiohead.

But it’s on her 2022 release, Revealer, where she finds her stride. The album is a warts-and-all self-portrait of a young artist full of doubt and uncertainty yet bursting with exciting ideas about music and life. Full of confessions, intimations, and hard truths, this soaring set of songs took home the Grammy for Best Folk Album in 2023.

Louis Linklater Abbott is a multi-instrumentalist and singer based in Glasgow. He is the songwriter for chamber-pop band, Admiral Fallow, who have released four albums to critical acclaim and have toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe, North America and Australia since their formation in 2007. The band have been working with Paul Savage (Mogwai, Paulo Nutini, Arab Strap) on their fifth studio album, due for release in 2025.

He also works as a session musician, drummer, engineer and producer, and has collaborated with some of Scotland’s finest contemporary musicians and singers including: King Creosote, Camera Obscura, Eddi Reader, Rachel Sermanni, Karine Polwart, Kris Drever, Siobhan Miller, Findlay Napier, Jo Mango, Mike Vass, Strike the Colours and Heidi Talbot.
