Celtic Connections proudly presents Brownbear and CLR Theory
Brownbear are an indie-soul outfit fronted by award winning songwriter, Matthew Hickman. Following the release their debut album What Is Home?, the band toured across the UK & Europe and have supported the likes of The Libertines, Paolo Nutini & Michael Kiwanuka. Their latest album Demons is a beautiful collection of tracks with heartfelt meaning behind every lyric, delivered with incredible emotion and is jam packed with melodies that are sure to be stuck in your head for weeks. The album dropped in March of 2023 to widespread acclaim, hitting the Scottish Official Album Chart Top 10 & being longlisted for Scottish Album of the Year.
Following on from his debut Celtic Connections appearance last year as part of Roddy Hart’s Roaming Roots Revue: Songs of Modern Scotland, Brownbear will be returning to the festival with a special Re:imagined performance of Demons alongside a string quartet.
CLR theory are a Glasgow based band born of Gill Higgins and Hannah Jarrett-Scott. They blend powerful vocal harmony, with bubbling string arrangements, triumphant brass, grounding synth and harmonium drones. After the release of their debut album WAVES CLR theory have grown into an ever evolving collective. Additional song writing and vocals come from Nico Denman alongside instrumentation from Ruth Campbell (Cello) and Ali Hendry (brass).
