Celtic Connections 2024

The uniquely rich sound created by award-winning The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc has been likened more to a string quartet than just a trio, garnering international acclaim as well as rave reviews from titles including Folkworld, which declared ‘pure fiddle doesn’t get much better than The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc’.

Kevin Henderson, Olav Luksengård Mjelva and Anders Hall first played together in 2009 and since then have performed at over 700 gigs across Scandinavia, mainland Europe, the US and the UK.  Their masterful instrumentation has also wowed audiences at major festivals, including Denmark’s Tønder Festival, Cape Breton’s Celtic Colours, Boston’s annual Celtic Christmas Sojourn, as well as Celtic Connections.

It was only in 2023 that American fiddle-player Liz Knowles, Congolese guitarist-vocalist Niwel Tsumbu, and Irish concertina master and composer Niall Vallely joined forces for the first time as a trio for a specially curated tour of Ireland. Together they form a powerhouse ensemble which has a great collaborative onstage presence and joie de vivre. The individual talents of the three musicians unite in singular, expressive musicmaking that’s underpinned by a shared artistic vision to produce beautiful harmonies, striking melodies and deep rhythmic grooves
