Celtic Connections 2024

Combining a respect for its musical roots with a number of influences, Skolvan is one of the leading lights in Breton music. The band combines the talents of its stalwarts, guitarist Gilles Le Bigot, piston / Breton oboe player Youenn Le Bihan, saxophonist Bernard Le Dréau, and accordionist Régis Huiban. The four musicians are celebrating Skolvan’s 40th anniversary in 2024, and four decades of success sweeping audiences of their feet with stunning arrangements of the very best and brightest dance music of Brittany.

Joining Skolvan is Shorelines Trio, a multi-instrumentalist Irish group which takes its name from the title of the 2023 album by its acclaimed singer, flute and whistle player, Nuala Kennedy – one of the finest stewards of traditional Irish song. Shorelines features collaborations with Tara Breen and Tony Byrne. Breen’s many awards as a fiddle player include the All-Ireland Senior Fiddle Title, and she’s also an All-Ireland winner on the flute and saxophone, and winner of 11 solo and 10 group All Ireland Fleadh titles. Guitarist Tony Byrne has over 25 years’ experience playing, recording, and teaching Irish traditional music, and he has performed with many leading acts including Sharon Shannon, Michael McGoldrick, Julie Fowlis, and Lunasa.
