NoCrows, a dynamic world music orchestra from Sligo's diverse music scene, formed in 2005 via a casual session in Sligo’s famous Shoot the Crows pub, hence the curious band name. The group eventually grew into an eclectic six piece playing mostly original material which could be filed under “World Music”. With 3 members from Ireland, the other three hailing from Siberia, Switzerland and Mallorca, the band’s original material reflects the diverse individual members' musical backgrounds, spanning Irish traditional, rumba, classical, jazz, rock, and Balkan music. In 2019 NoCrows was awarded Band of the Year at renowned arts venue Zehntscheuer, Ravensburg, Germany. It wasn’t until 2022, however, that the band made their debut in France, performing at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris.
After six CD releases, NoCrows have recently launched their very first limited-edition vinyl album, eponymously titled NoCrows. The LP is a remastered-for-vinyl “Best Of” collection plus bonus tracks, new compositions written during the lockdown of 2020/21.
RTE Folk Awards nominee Padraig Jack will release his second album in Autumn 2024. A native of the the Aran islands in the Irish speaking Gaeltacht, a place that has produced the writers Liam O’Flaithearta, Máirtín Ó’Direáin and Breandán Ó’hEithir, Padraig is proudly bilingual both as a conversationalist and a songwriter and writes and sings meaningful songs on guitar and piano in Irish Gaelic and English. With influences from James Taylor and The Eagles to Van Morrison, Sinead O’Connor and Richard Thompson, Padraig appreciates strong songwriting with a distinct point of view.
Padraig Jack provides a totally engaging performance which comprises a series of moments which are supported by his disarming charm, wit, perspectives on society, Irish history and of course top quality songs in both English and Irish. Padraig delivers his well crafted songs with a quality voice and is supported by a band which included Anthony Thistlethwaite of the Saw Doctors (founding member of The Waterboys no less). Audiences are guided through his set with appropriate background stories of his songs which provide extra context but also really show who the artist is and make it a thoroughly intimate show.
