Celtic Connections presents Mary Coughlan and Daniel Kimbro
Widely regarded as Ireland’s greatest jazz and blues singer, Mary Coughlan celebrated her 40th year in music with the release of her new album, Repeat Rewind, in 2024.
A revered and enduring performer, Mary first burst onto the Irish music scene in 1985 with her debut album, Tired and Emotional. Since then, she has made some of the most uncompromising, wholly personal, and universal music by any Irish artist.
Her latest album sees Mary at perhaps her most open, honest and introspective — but not at the expense of her trademark humour and astute observations. To hear her sing is, as Velvet Thunder said, “to be at the core of the human heart”.
Raised on American Roots music in Eastern Tennessee, Daniel Kimbro is a multi GRAMMY-nominated musician with 20 years experience alongside luminaries including Eric Clapton , Jerry Dougla, John Hiatt, Transatlantic Sessions, Sarah Jarosz, Larkin Poe & many others. While his collaborations are numerous, his new solo album Carpet In The Kitchen epitomizes Daniel’s experience as a songwriter & arranger. Guests on the album include Jerry Douglas, Mike Baggetta on electric guitar, & Jordan Perlson on Drumset.
Known to audiences for his work with Transatlantic Sessions, Martin Harley & Harley Kimbro Lewis, and many others, Daniel continues to tour these regions solo and as an accompanist.
