Ranked among Scotland’s most skilled and imaginative contemporary folk acts, Breabach unites deep roots in Highland & Island tradition with the innovative Scottish music scene. Twenty years since being awarded winners of the 2005 Danny Kyle Open Stage, Breabach return to Celtic Connections for this unique collaboration with one of Europe's foremost contemporary big bands, the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, for an energetic and exhilarating performance.
After seven increasingly acclaimed albums and two decades of world touring, the band continue their collaborative journey, joining forces with one of Europe’s foremost contemporary big bands, The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra. A retrospective selection of Breabach’s music will be reimagined and ignited by the incredible talents of the SNJO, blending tradition with adventurous creativity.
Over the years, Breabach have received an impressive array of accolades, including six 'Scots Trad Music Awards', nominations as ‘Best Group’ (BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards), ‘European Album of the Year’ (Songlines Music Awards) and the 'Quarterly Critic's Choice' (German Record Critic's Award 2023).
Shane Cook & The Woodchippers' core sound is based on their deep connection to the traditional music of Ontario, yet they also draw on styles as broad as Celtic, folk, roots, bluegrass, and swing. Their superbly crafted compositions and arrangements are a modern, exhilarating approach to fiddle tunes, song, and dance.
Shane Cook is a multi-instrumentalist and master of the Canadian old-time fiddle tradition. Joining him as a four-member group of multi-instrumentalists, singers and step dancers, The Woodchippers are: Emily Flack on piano, vocals and dance, Joe Phillips on vocals, double bass and guitar, and Kyle Waymouth on guitar, tenor banjo and dance.
