Despite over 23 years as a duo, spontaneity and discovery remain at the heart of fiddler Alasdair Fraser and cellist Natalie Haas’s extraordinary creative symbiosis. Rooted in their vast and profound knowledge of the Scottish tradition, the duo’s continuing compositional direction towards the ultimate combination of minimalism and richness, sophistication and vigor is in evidence on their latest release, Syzygy. The old meaning of the word is “the coming together of two elements without losing the individual characteristics of each" - this has always been their goal, and they bring two distinct but complementary musical minds to the task.

This event is delivered in partnership with the University of Strathclyde, as part of their Diamond Jubilee programme.  Celebrating the University’s unique contribution to the world since the granting of a Royal Charter in 1964, the Jubilee explores Strathclyde’s innovative approach to education and research and the institution’s impact on society over more than 225 years since its foundation in 1796, as well as looking to the future and the next chapter of the Strathclyde story.
