The Lonesome Ace Stringband bring grit, skill and abandon to old-time Appalachian folk music. The band have won praise from promoters and critics and earned approval from the most discerning of audiences at bluegrass. Chris Coole (banjo), John Showman (fiddle) and Max Heineman (bass) all sing and compose, creating a perfect balance of old and new.

Danny Kyle award winners, The Magpies, are one of the most exciting acts on the roots scene. Members Bella Gaffney, Holly Brandon and latest arrival Kate Griffin are all under 30.  Together they combine first class musicianship with sublime harmonies. And their song and tune writing is increasingly impressive. Themes of sisterhood and solidarity , tricky relationships and rueful reflection seamlessly switch between Anglo and American roots – traversing traditional folk, bluegrass, Celtic and Appalachian trails.
