The Langan Band and Holiday Club

The Langan Band bring their “un-pigeon-holeable, yet utterly irresistible” sound to Oran Mòr as part of Celtic Connections 2024. Ayrshire-born John Langan is found centre-stage, seated on an explosive foot percussion rig of his own devising. He fronts the award-winning trio with intricate fiery guitar rhythms and witheringly sweet and scathing vocals. To his right stands Alastair Caplin, a classically trained violinist channelling both the London Prog-Folk/Jazz scenes and the blistering reels of his native Outer Hebrides. Stage left is Angus-born Dave Tunstall and his double bass, which emanates a seductive blend of eerily-bowed soundscapes, heart-stopping bass lines, and, in conjunction with Caplin’s blurred bowing, a truly monumental wall of orchestral noise. 

Supporting the band is the four-piece Holiday Club — the brainchild of Scottish musicians Luisa Brown (fiddle and vocals) and Freya Rae (flute and whistles). Completing the quartet is Ireland’s Jack Badcock (guitar and vocals) and Spain’s Miguel Carballido (bodhran) to deliver foot-stomping contemporary tunes inspired by their Scots, Irish and Galician roots.
