Fiddler and composer Catriona Price presents her beautiful debut solo album, Hert – a stunning set of tunes inspired by the poetry of her native Orkney. Hert is Orcadian Scots for “heart” and this folk and jazz-influenced multi-instrumental suite overflows with it. Price spent her childhood in Orkney fiddle sessions before studying at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Northern College. Astonishingly versatile, she’s a member of both Twelfth Day and Fara as well as a prodigiously talented solo performer.
Cerys Hafana is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who mangles, mutates, and transforms traditional music. She explores the creative possibilities and unique qualities of the triple harp, and is also interested in found sounds, archive materials and electronic processing. She comes from Machynlleth, Wales, where rivers and roads meet on the way to the sea.
Since the release of her second album EDYF, Cerys Hafans’s trajectory has been steep, dramatic and, to date, extremely successful. She has appeared on Woman’s Hour, BBC Radio 4, and was “Folk Album Of The Month” in The Guardian. And she recently featured on BBC Radio 3, with multiple plays on BBC 6 Music as well as BBC Radio 2.
“Hafana sings movingly, like an indie-pop soprano shorn of sweetness” **** (The Guardian)
