Traditional and experimental sounds unite in the music of this Scottish/Finnish duo Sarah-Jane Summers and Juhani Silvola, based in Norway. Their 3rd album, The Smoky Smirr o Rain, was nominated for a Norwegian Grammy, and each of their 3 duo albums was awarded Top Of The World status from SonglinesHow To Raise The Wind was commissioned by Nordlysfestivalen 2022 (The Northern Lights Festival, Tromsø). In this through composed work for string quintet and the duo, they take inspiration from the fantastic worlds of Highland folk tales. The music is based on the rhythmic drive and melodic focus of traditional music, but is arranged as classical/contemporary chamber music, with the string quintet as the work’s structural foundation.

Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas’ 20-year musical journey reaches its zenith in their most recent release, SYZYGY. The coming together of 2 elements without losing the individual characteristics of each - this has always been their goal, and they bring 2 distinct but complementary musical minds to the task. Comprised of completely original music, half Alasdair’s and half Natalie’s, this album showcases the duo’s continuing compositional direction towards the ultimate combination of minimalism and richness, sophistication and vigor - tunes based in the tradition but firmly rooted in modernity.
