Celtic Connections proudly presents Transatlantic Sessions

Marking 30 years since the TV series first aired, Transatlantic Sessions returns to Celtic Connections. Combining guest singers and a celebrated house band, the show interweaves original material with age-old songs and tunes as talented artists from both sides of the pond explore shared roots.

For fifty-four years, singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III has carved out a distinguished career. He’s released over thirty albums, won a Grammy, acted in films and TV shows, and had his songs recorded by artists including Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, and his own son, Rufus Wainwright.

Julie Fowlis (who features on Disney Pixar’s Brave soundtrack) is widely regarded for championing traditional Gaelic. Her music is influenced by the Hebridean islands where she grew up and the Highland landscapes she now calls home.

Acclaimed Americana musicians Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams bring their deep-rooted songs and instrumental virtuosity to the stage, honed by years of touring with a who’s who of music, including Bob Dylan, K.D. Lang, Levon Helm, Sheryl Crow, and Emmylou Harris.

Born on Clare Island, Co.Mayo, Niall McCabe grew up surrounded by strong musical influences, from traditional Irish and folk to rock and soul. Having earned a reputation as one of Ireland’s finest singer-songwriters, he has performed extensively across Ireland, Europe and the USA.

The show's seasoned house band, guided by Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas, features renowned musicians Phil Cunningham, John Doyle, Michael McGoldrick, Tatiana Hargreaves & Allison de Groot, John McCusker, Donald Shaw, James Mackintosh and Daniel Kimbro.
