Duncan Chisholm and Hamish Napier have a long-standing co-writing partnership. Join these two fine Highland landscape composers as they share some of their approaches to the creative process in a two day group workshop. This is a unique opportunity to write alongside them, and gain insight into writing two contrasting new instrumental pieces together. The workshops will explore ways to dig where you stand by finding musical inspiration in your surroundings, and how to translate these into initial 'tune-seeds'.
They will show you simple but effective ways to capture compositional ideas using assessable day-to-day technology. The writing progress will be presented using music notation software, as the seeds grow into complete pieces. Open to intermediate/advanced tune players and chord players alike, both the melodic and harmonic aspects will be explored (a little prior music theory would be helpful). This will be an engaging, immersive and enlightening experience for all budding composers of trad music.
Please note: instrumental players only - this is not a songwriting workshop. Not suitable for beginners.
