John Maclean: His Legacy in Politics, Poem and Song

Join Henry Bell and Joey Simons, editors of Now’s The Day, Now’s The Hour: Poems for John Maclean, for a discussion of how and why Scotland’s great communist revolutionary is remembered today.

100 years after Maclean’s death we’ll be discussing the key aspects of his life and politics that live on in popular song, and looking at some of the overlooked elements of his story. Why nationalism, internationalism, pacifism and violence, family and madness leave him as a figure outside the political narrative and yet embraced by poets and singers from Hamish Henderson to Jackie Kay.
