From her stunning album Dialogues, in which she
invited some of her best musical friends to participate in a series of
stunning duets, Su-a Lee (Grit Orchestra) returns to the festival to
perform with three of her stellar collaborators: Duncan Chisholm, one
of Scotland's most revered fiddlers, celebrated
multi-instrumentalist/composer/producer Donald Shaw, and Hamish
Napier - producer, tunesmith and festival regular from his Nae Plans
project.
Through her prolific career as lead cellist in groups like
the Scottish Chamber Orchestra & Mr McFall’s Chamber Su-a has
constantly explored the role of the cello in folk & world traditions. In fact,
the cello was the original Scottish folk rhythm section instrument – famous
Scots fiddlers of the 18th century, like Neil Gow, Peter Milne and James Scott
Skinner were regularly accompanied by a cellist.
Su-a says, "Playing solo is not really my thing. I am
energised by working with other people, especially these people. Expect an
evening of traditional, and not so traditional tunes”.
