Celtic Connections proudly presents Blazin' Fiddles and Simon Thoumire's 'Dol Fodha Na Grèine'
One of the most celebrated and best-loved acts of the Scottish music scene, Blazin’ Fiddles features the mastery of three Highlands and Islands fiddle virtuosos - Jenna Reid (Shetland), Kristan Harvey (Orkney) and Rua Macmillan (Highlands) - grounded by second to none, driving accompaniment of Angus Lyon (piano) and Anna Massie (guitar). For over a quarter of a century, no other band has quite captured Scottish fiddle music’s variety, energy and sensitivity like Blazin’ Fiddles. Whatever the hall - whether of the Royal Albert or highland village variety - they’ll turn it into the liveliest and warmest of hootenannies.
Dol fodha na grèine (Sunset) is a 45-minute musical suite celebrating the 30th anniversary of Aly Bain's landmark Follow the Moonstone. Featuring concertina player Simon Thoumire, pianist Dave Milligan, piper Alana NicAonghais, and string ensemble, the piece explores Scotland, South Uist, and contemporary music traditions, creating a companion piece to Bain's groundbreaking work.
