Having recently sold out both Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie and Berlin’s Philharmonie concert halls, B O D I E S show no signs of slowing down. The creation of Berlin-based Australian singer, songwriter and producer Kat Frankie, this 8-piece vocal ensemble’s concerts are touching, adventurous and transcendent.
Sharing the stage with seven brilliant singers and no instruments, Frankie presents an a cappella performance about what it means to be made of matter. The concept is hybrid: the show contains new arrangements of Frankie’s existing songs and more ambitious compositions explicitly written for the ensemble. Musically spanning indie and neo-classical with a strong ear for melody, it’s no exaggeration to state that B O D I E S have a sound all their own.
The voices of Con’tylia, accompanied by the strings of a Cretan laouto, guitars and hand drums, aim to explore the wonders of Greek folk music ranging from ambient and passionate ballads to Greek island dances, delving into decades of Greek Trad, Minor Asian scales and unique rhythms, merging them with a touch of jazz vocals and improvisations. The four member piece, sing solos, duets and quartets, to create polyphonic melodies and vocal interactions, with rhythms and melodies that resemble no others.
