All-female folk outfit The Deep Blue present a sublime array of songs showcasing their wonderful vocal harmonies and instrumental acumen.
Formed in 2020, they’ve drawn huge acclaim for debut EP, Taking On Water, which combines intensely personal songs with astute political commentary. ‘The Jealous Sea’, for instance, was inspired by “the never-ending onslaught of airbrushed social media”. Although Manchester-based, their roots are UK-wide: Georgia Gage is Scottish, Niamh Feeney is Irish, Sophie Wozencraft is Welsh and Katie Emmanuel “from Down South”. Together, they cite influences such as Fleetwood Mac and the Corrs but their melodic blend of folk, pop and rock is uniquely theirs.
